Software

Jan 09, 2024

Software I’m currently using for daily work, it’s objectivly the best.

Video

  • Davinci Resolve – Definitively my main tool, it’s complex video suite doing:

    • Media management
    • Editing
    • Visual effects
    • Motion graphic
    • Audio post-processing
    • Subtitles
    • Rendering

It covers everything that I would otherwise need: Premier Pro, After effects, Audicate, Media Encoder, Nuke which I’ve been using in the past, and happy to leave behind

  • FFmpeg – CLI tool

Open Video Downloader – Simple yt-dlp GUI tool.

Photo

  • Affinity Photo – Photoshop alternative, both programs are vaguely similar, but this one has quite a better performance, It made huge deal while back when I was doing photo restoration, 15000×10000px 600MB TIFF scans were almost impossible to work with on Photoshop, even on my high-end PC. Also it doesn’t require monthly subscription and is more privacy-friendly, sadly it yet doesn’t have a new AI tools.

  • Darktable – Free and open source Lightroom alternative, works on Linux quite more advanced tho for RAW post-processing, as a non-RAW editor work quite similar

  • Luminar NEO – Another Lightroom alternative this one is more bleeding edge packed with plenty AI tools, I like for faster editing and for batch processing as the AI tools are quite adaptive and content aware.

Design

Art

Writing

  • Obsidian – Markdown editor and knowledge management system, using wiki links and .org It covers all writing including:
  • Journaling
  • Blogs
  • Video scripts
  • Written strategies It also has Canvas and mind maps for more visual approach

Coding

  • VScodium – I’m not a developer, but sometimes I need to code something, is it FFmpeg script, shell tool or this very website, I use VScodium it’s FOSS alternative for popular VScode from Microsoft.
